چکیده

-The effects of meprobamate, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam and sodium pentobarbital on sensory input to the boundary area between the dorsal midbrain tegmentum and ventral tectum of the rat have been investigated in order to find out whether effects obtained with these compounds in the hypothalamus can also be observed at the mesencephalic level. The following results have been obtained. (1) At a dose of 2"5 mg/kg i.p., chlordiazepoxide had no effect; at 5, 10, 15, and 20 mg/kg, this compound decreased the amplitude of the initial components of the visually evoked responses in the rat. There was an increased effect at higher doses.

CNS depressant activities of roots of Coccos nucifera in mice.

The ethanol extract of Coccos nucifera (EECN) was tested for possible pharmacological effects on experimental animals. EECN significantly potentiated the sleeping time of mice induced by standard hypnotics viz. pentobarbital sodium, diazepam, and meprobamate in a dose dependent manner. EECN showed significant analgesic properties as evidenced by the significant reduction in the number of writhe...

Potentiating effects of Perovskia abrotanoides on pentobarbital-induced sleep

Objective: Sleeplessness is the most common sleep disorder. In this study the hypnotic effect of the hydro-alcoholic extract (HAE) of Perovskia abrotanoides and its water fraction (WF), ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) and n-butanol fraction (NBF) were studied in mice.Materials and Methods: The test compounds were administered intraperitoneally to mice 30 min before the administration of sodium pen...

Avoidance enhancement and discriminative response control by anxiolytics with drugs acting on the GABA system.

Two types of conditioned behaviors were investigated for the purpose of evaluating anxiolytic drugs. A conditioning procedure used was an active avoidance in poorly-performing mice. Chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, chlorazepate and meprobamate increased the avoidance rate, while chlorpromazine, haloperidol and nortriptyline did not produce such an effect. The effect of diazepam was potentiated by ga...
